Presenting at a conference is not the same as writing a paper.
Most presentations fail for one simple reason:
– They try to include everything.
– Focus on one message
If your audience remembers only one thing — what should it be?
Build your presentation around that. Simplify your slides
Avoid:
– dense text
– too many numbers
– complex tables
Use:
1 idea per slide
clear visuals
readable graphs
Explain your work like you would to a colleague. Clarity always wins over complexity.
Prepare for questions
Think in advance:
• What are the limitations of your study?
• What would you do differently?
• What are the practical implications?
Good discussions matter more than perfect slides.
After your talk:
• stay near your poster
• talk to people who show interest
• ask others about their work
People won’t remember every detail of your results. They will remember:
whether you were clear
whether your work mattered
whether you were easy to talk to
